Proverbs 30:31 - Might of a Rooster

This lap-sized quilt is made is a pattern of two alternating rows. The short rows is small print country layer cake squares in a row. The tall rows is larger print fabrics with roosters and hens on them. The border, backing, and binding is a light brown cotton. This was the first quilt I quilted on my antique Singer treadle. It's quilted with cream thread in both a grid and lattice pattern.

The verse for this quilt references the roosters:

"Three things are stately in their stride,

four that move with stately bearing:

a lion, mighty among beasts,

who never backs down from anything; a strutting rooster, a male-goat,

and a king with his army around him." (Proverbs 30:29-31)

This portion of Proverbs 30 uses animals as illustrations. These verses use the lion, rooster, and goat to represent stately and dignified animals. These animals are likened to a king with his army. Both parties stand tall as they are fully aware of their might and power. A lion knows he has the power to kill any threat to his pride. The rooster stands knowing how gorgeous his plumage is and how he can protect his flock from any predators. The goat knows the power of his horns to defeat any attackers. A king with his forces around him is secure the he can win this battle.

How does this relate to us? Why was this in the battle, seeing as we're not kings and we don't have armies at our disposal? When we operate according to God's will for our lives, we stand with angel armies around us. When we follow God's teachings, we equip ourselves with the armor of God. We stand dignified and stately in our homes, knowing that our spiritual weapons and God's forces on our side will help us to prevail in any attack against us or our flock.
