Matthew 2:2 - Intellect Strengthens Faith

Updated: Jul 17, 2022

This quilt is a carpenter's star. This pattern is made of HSTs used to create two stars, one inside the other. The print fabric was a fat quarter pack from Amazon. The solid fabric is from cotton bed sheets. The backing of the quilt is a light grey fleece. It makes this quite a thick quilt.

The verse chosen for this quilt is based on the pattern name, carpenter's star. The obvious connection here is Jesus, the carpenter, being born under the star of Bethlehem (not to be confused with a star of Bethlehem quilt pattern). The verse references this star:

"'Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.'" (Matthew 2:2 TLV)

The wise men, or magi, from the east noticed a special star in the sky. Their lives' work was to study and interpret the skies. They knew, at once, that this star meant a mighty king was born under it. Their immediate concern is to find this king and go and worship Him. What great faith! These men were considered learned men of extension education, men of profound wisdom. They were defined by their stoicism and knowledge, yet they traveled a great distance to go worship a baby. They knew they found find a child, and yet still went to humble themselves before an infant.

Sometimes our intellect can be a hindrance to worship or moving in the spirit. We think ourselves logical beings, that the spirit is for the heart not the head. The wise men were the most intelligent people in their kingdoms. Yet, this fact did not hinder them coming to the baby Christ and kneeling down before the Him in a barn. Your intelligence does not have to be an obstacle to worship; instead, use it to create a strong foundation for your faith based on the facts found in the Bible.
