Malachi 3:10 - Blessings of the Tithe

This quilt was made from a jelly roll of the five colors present. There are six main blocks of two color scapes. The pattern is a form of square in a square with the same colors in opposite corners. The square is actually made from HSTs.

We call it the window quilt as the colorful border and six blocks look like the panes of a window, with the black sashing acting just like window sashes.

The verse for this quilt is from Malachi:

"'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Then there will be food in My House. Now test Me in this'—says Adonai-Tzva’ot—'if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out blessing for you, until no one is without enough.'" (Malachi 3:10 TLV)

In this part of Malachi, God is warning the children of Israel about their tithing. They had been withholding the tithe from God. He is telling them what would happen if they return the tithe and continue giving their tithes as they should be. He says, "return to Me, and I will return to you," (verse 7), implying that without the tithe, His presence no longer visits the people. God describes that Israel has been robbing Him of His tithes. He dares them to return their tithes and see the blessings that will flow from the windows of heaven.

In these verses, God is again illustrating the biblical principle of the blessings of the tithes. Abraham first gives a voluntary tithe in Genesis 14:20 as a thank-you for victory. Jacob then makes a vow to God in Genesis 28:20-22, that if God watches over him and blesses him, Jacob will give him a tithe. Proverbs 3:9-10 once again impresses that the tithe and first-fruit offerings come with immense blessings from God.

Theses verses and situations impressed upon me the importance of tithing at a young age. I have seen the blessings of God in my own life as a result of my tithing. Proverbs 3:10 says that "your barns will be filled with plenty, your vats overflow with new wine." I have seen these overflow blessings, so much so that my office space is having trouble containing all of these blessings.

God says to test Him on this. Start tithing again if you've stopped and see how He moves in your life to reward you with blessings and favor. Imagine God opening the windows of heaven and the blessings you've been aching for falling from the sky. If ten percent seems like too much of a burden now, it certainly won't after the blessings come raining down.
