Caprice No. 24 - Paganini

Thanks to TwoSet Violin, Paganini’s 24th caprice is a banner piece. One joke is that if something can play the theme to the caprice, it can and should be considered an instrument. Therefore, a pitch-corrected freezer door is an instrument.

Here, TwoSet plays with Hilary Hahn, a fantastic soloist. She’s well-established in her career as a capable violinist. TwoSet gained their fame from creating it themselves unconventionally, on YouTube. It’s amazing to see the traditional and the atypical collide. You can hear the differences between all three players as they hand off the piece to each other.

My favorite part of this piece is the hula-hooping. It represents best what TwoSet accomplishes. They take a serious piece of classical music (the caprice) and representations of the serious classical music world (Hilary Hahn) and combine it with zany ways of capturing the young generations’ attention (hula hoops). It’s genius.

Whenever TwoSet has Hilary Hahn on their channel, it’s always a great case of sharing knowledge between experts. TwoSet are experts in their online field, they have the modern fans with inside jokes and terminology. Hilary Hahn represents the stoic classical music realm and teaches TwoSet (and their viewers) musical tips. This exemplifies a teaching made in proverbs:

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion].” (Proverbs 27:17 AMP)
