This weekend is Remnant Conference 2022. This is a youth-focused conference at King Jesus Ministry in Miami. The event starts bright and early Friday and ends Saturday night with an Upperroom concert.
I’ve been to Remnant before, notably when it used to be called CGC. A lot of churches say they’re accepting of the youth, but they don’t train the youth in spiritual gifts and power. KJM takes a difference approach, understanding that the youth are the next generation of leaders and five-fold ministers. We can see this mindset in Bible:
“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
(I Timothy 4:12 NKJV)
Paul is writing to Timothy about his youth. In these times, teachers of the law went through years of study and then years of apprenticeship, resulting in authority in later age. However, Jesus gives us spiritual authority through the Holy Spirit. Those in the old mindset connected age and authority. They had a problem receiving Timothy since he was young, but he had such power! This was unsupportable. Either the man in front of them was wrong or they were wrong. We can tell who they put the blame on.
Apostle Paul writes Timothy to assure him that his faith is not a detriment to his ministry. To break the mindset, Timothy has to show in his works and deeds that he acts as correctly as wizened teachers of faith. When Timothy, through his comportment, shows that there is no material difference between himself and the older ministers, the mindset will begin to break down. Those around Timothy will gain a respect for him and start to look within for the disconnect they’ve experienced.
Remnant Conference is seeking to raise up Timothies by mentoring them as Paul did. Our youth need to know that even now, being young as they are, they have spiritual authority. They can teach, perform miracles, heal the sick, cast out demons, just as older believers can.
